What is Biothane?

BioThane®is the brand name of all coated webbing products made by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. It’s a polyester webbing with a TPU or PVC coating that makes it more durable, waterproof and easy to clean. A vegan alternative to leather, it's easier to maintain and readily available in a variety of colours and sizes. We use Beta Biothane sourced from a Canadian distributor.

What colours do you offer?

Our colours are posted in each product ad. Looking for a custom colour or combination? Contact us!

What hardware should I choose?

We offer two types of hardware, black and silver. We highly recommend the silver hardware especially for frequent water use as it is rust resistant and does not scratch as easily as the black. The black hardware is nice for a classy look on daily use gear. The black is a coloured coating that can scrape off under normal wear and tear, revealing the silver metal underneath. We do not offer replacements when black hardware gets scratched.
Our all-metal hardware option is best for heavy pullers and those who often run to the end of a leash, due to the added pressure put on the hardware. Please note, our locking side release buckles are only available in plastic.

Which type of clip should I choose?

We currently offer three types of leash clips: Auto-locking Carabiners, Slide lock Carabiners and Lobster Clasps. Photos are available in each leash's description.
The Auto-locking Carabiner is our most recommended! It's lightweight and heavy duty, making it perfect for heavy pullers, escape artists and hard players. The automatic twist lock makes it the most secure clip on the market. Perfect for daily use, long line adventures and tethering!
The Slide lock carabiners are good for daily use for moderate pullers. They take less of a learning curve to figure out and open but the security of the lock is dependent on the handler sliding it closed. Without the lock, it functions as a normal carabiner.
Meant for those who may struggle with hand dexterity, the Lobster Clasp is our most accessible clip. Great for daily use for moderate pullers, it's easy to open and close, although we do not recommend this type for long lines as they are prone to getting sand/dirt/debris in the clip and sticking.

Do you do custom orders?

Yes! Feel free to contact us directly for custom sizes, colours or gear. Pricing and availability varies. Please note, as a company whose core values follow ethical, welfare-based treatment of animals, we do not offer custom pieces used in conjunction with aversive tools or methods. This includes but is not limited to prong collar covers, ecollar straps or remote wrist straps, slip leads or equipment designed to limit proper body movement.

Do you repair products from other sellers?

Yes! If you have a product from another seller needing a repair, please reach out to us through the Contact page or through social media. The cost of the repair depends on what it requires. Please note: we will not repair a product that does not align with our ethics, therefore we are unable to repair products such as ecollar straps, prong covers, slip leads etc.

Can I tag you and be featured on your social media/website?

Yes, absolutely! We love seeing adventure dogs enjoying our gear. We even have a photo album online where you can share your pics with us! Because we are a strictly Force/Fear Free company, we reserve the right to deny any tags, collaborations or shared media depicting any aversive tools or training methods, or accounts who regularly depict these methods. Our brand is important to us and we will always strive to support ethical, evidence-based training methods and dog guardians who do the same.

How do I clean my Biothane gear?

Cleaning your Biothane is as easy as giving it a rinse with warm water and wiping it down, adding a mild detergent as needed. Please do NOT use alcohol-based cleaners as they can damage the coating. Please note light and bright colours are more prone to staining and/or colour transfer.

My collar/harness is causing fur damage. What do I do?

Because of the coating on Biothane, it tends to grip the fur more, resulting in damage if not sized correctly. Usually this damage is a result of a collar or harness being too loose and moving too much against the dog as they move. All straps should be sized to have 2 fingers comfortably fit but no more.

What is the break strength of Biothane?

We use Beta Biothane, which has a break strength of 1000lbs/inch, so a 1" wide collar will have a 1000lbs break strength, but a 3/4" wide collar will have 750lbs. Please note this is just the biothane itself, not the hardware and not incorporating potential weak points around the holes. We do not guarantee break strength.

Custom Colour Options can be seen below. Availability can vary, please contact for more information. Some screens may inaccurately show shades but codes are Biothane specific, meaning web searches can show the same colour in different lighting if necessary!
